EA Games is bringing back the classic shooter with a modern setting. In this Medal of Honor it is going to be the US forces against the hostiles of Afghanistan. EA Los Angeles and the US armed forces have been working together to make sure that the single player mode is as authentic as possible. Information about the multiplayer portion has been not been released but I can tell you that it is being worked on by DICE, the studio responsible for the Battlefield franchise. When you begin the campaign mode you will start out as a Tier 1 operator, an elite soldier who is only given the more difficult missions. You and your squad will be a small group of elites who blend into the crowd, not formally dressed in uniform. The game will have interactions from different level of the military, meaning you will be receiving orders from direct supervisors and commanding officers in the US. These interactions may be featured in various cut-scenes or radio communications; it’s up in the air. As you progress through the game you will be able to switch through different members in your squad to get a better insight of what is going on. One of the missions you play is set in a mountainous area of Afghanistan. You and your squad make your way through rocky pathways on your way to disable an anti-aircraft gun and fight your way into enemy territory. The type of combat you encounter focuses more on stealth and precision. Communications is kept brief and to the point throughout the mission. The look and feel is as realistic as you can get without actually going into the mountains of Afghanistan. There is an extensive amount of teamwork in this game, every team member is assigned a task and they always get the job done. As you make your way across the hillside you will have one teammate scouting for you to let you know enemy positions. Enemies will be indentified for you to eliminate while the rest of your team ensures that there will be no response from all hostiles in the surrounding areas. As you play through the game the combat begins to feel more like a first person shooter where you crouch behind cover to avoid enemy fire and pop up to fire back in between gunfire. The shooting mechanics of this game are very well crafted. It is uncertain but the game may use cut-scenes of certain events happening to build character and reinforce the game’s personalities. Expect an article in the future about the multiplayer mode of MOH. Medal of Honor is planned to be released in Quarter 3 of 2010.
